Y.A.H.O.O. In Action

Yard Clean-Up

Our Saturday morning work sessions focus on clearing lawns of debris, principally leaves and tree branches. Occasionally we will also cut down flower beds and spread mulch. Y.A.H.O.O. takes a ‘traditional’ approach to yardwork by relying solely on hand tools (rakes and tarps). The absence of power tools facilitates our mission of collaboration and community.

Connecting Youth and Seniors

The Y.A.H.O.O. program works actively to facilitate face-to-face interactions between youth volunteers and the older residents in our community. Working in coordination, the Sterling Senior Center and the Youth Board encourage and facilitate inter-generational interactions both to complete a successful work effort but also, importantly, to make personal connections.

The Golden Rake Award

The prestigious Golden Rake Award is awarded to Youth Volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to Y.A.H.O.O. through attendance, team work, and carrying out the program’s mission. Recipients of the Golden Rake are selected by the Y.A.H.O.O. Youth Board.
