The early April snow storm delayed the start of our spring 2024 season by one week. The shortened season presents a challenge to complete all houses before lawns become thick with grass. Nonetheless, we’re off to great start with half of our list of homes completed! Only two more work days remaining: April 27 and May 4. Come join us! It’s fun and rewarding!
Please register to volunteer for the spring season. Y.A.H.O.O.’s target schedule is: 4/6, 4/13, 4/20, and 4/27. We may also work on 5/4, if necessary, if for example a weekend is cancelled due to wet conditions. Tom Dube of Dube Construction Management (DCM) generously donated labor and materials to complete much needed repairs to the Y.A.H.O.O. shed. DCM rebuilt nearly the entire north wall (studs and siding), some of the interior floor, replaced most of the base boards along with portions of the siding close to the ground, several trim boards, and inserted flashing at seam lines. Each year Sterling’s Chocksett Middle School graciously hosts a presentation by the Y.A.H.O.O. Youth Board. All seventh and eighth graders gather in the school auditorium to hear board members describe the program and answer questions. The teachers and the school’s administration are wonderful ambassadors and supporters of the program. We can’t thank them enough for their assistance.
